Smog check by ZIP code
Every ZIP code on this page is inside the Washoe County smog testing area, so a gasoline vehicle based there tests every year at renewal. Pick your ZIP to see which of the two Reno locations is closer and what the area's households and vehicles look like.

The Nevada DMV draws the Washoe testing area around Reno, Sparks, Washoe Valley, most of the area west of Washoe Valley, and the part of the county south of the 40th parallel, about midway through Pyramid Lake. That covers the ZIP codes most Washoe drivers live in.
What each ZIP page shows
Each of the 18 pages names the neighborhoods inside the ZIP, the closer location and the roads to it, the drive time to both locations, and the ZIP's figures from the Census Bureau's ACS 2020-2024 survey: people, households, vehicles per household and the mean commute. A household with two or three vehicles has two or three smog checks a year, so those numbers are a fair guide to how often the trip comes up.
The two Reno locations
Reno Northwest is at 6100 Mae Anne Ave, (775) 787-1000, open Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm and Saturday 8 am to 4 pm. Reno South is at 4993 Longley Ln near the airport and I-580, (775) 828-6996, open Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm and Saturday 8 am to 3 pm. Both are inside an Xpress Oil & Lube Center, both take drive-ins with no appointment, and both send results to the DMV electronically. Drive times come from OpenStreetMap routing in light traffic, so treat them as a guide.
Outside the testing area
The DMV exempts vehicles based in Incline Village, Crystal Bay, Sutcliffe, Nixon and Wadsworth, and in the rest of Nevada outside the urban parts of Washoe and Clark counties. Your renewal notice says Smog Check Required when a test is due.
Closer to Reno Northwest
Closer to Reno South
Every ZIP code listed is inside the Washoe County testing area (Nevada DMV, dmv.nv.gov/emission.htm, read 10/19/26). Closer location by OpenStreetMap routing (OSRM), retrieved 10/15/26, not a promise.
