Reno Northwest at 6100 Mae Anne Ave sits inside the ZIP itself, about 8 minutes from most homes, and Reno South on Longley Ln is about 22 minutes away. 4.6 stars from 210 Google reviews of this Xpress Oil & Lube Center Northwest Reno's ZIP code takes in Somersett, Mogul, the hillside streets off Robb Drive and the neighborhoods along McCarran Boulevard and Mae Anne Avenue north of I-80. It is one of the few ZIP codes where the smog check does not mean a trip across town, because the Reno Northwest location, inside Xpress Oil & Lube Center, carries an 89523 address. ## At a glance - Reno Northwest, 6100 Mae Anne Ave, is inside ZIP 89523: about 8 minutes from most of the ZIP code area. - Reno South, 4993 Longley Ln, is about 22 minutes away by I-80 and I-580. - The whole ZIP sits inside the Nevada DMV's Washoe County testing area. - Nearly 65 percent of households here have two or more vehicles (ACS 2020-2024). ## A location inside your own ZIP code From Somersett, Mogul or the streets off Robb Drive and McCarran Boulevard, the drive to Mae Anne Avenue runs about 8 minutes in light traffic by OpenStreetMap routing, and most of it stays off the freeway. If your day takes you south instead, Reno South at 4993 Longley Ln near the Reno-Tahoe airport is about 22 minutes, east on I-80 and south on I-580. Both are drive-in locations with no appointment, so either one works on the day that suits you. ## 16,342 households, one renewal calendar each The Census Bureau's ACS 2020-2024 estimates count 37,130 people in the 89523 ZIP code area, living in 16,342 households with 1.91 vehicles per household. Nearly 65 percent of those households have two or more vehicles. In practice most homes here handle at least two smog checks a year, and the registrations rarely expire in the same month. A simple habit helps: write each vehicle's expiration month on the calendar and plan the test for the first weeks of its renewal window. Online renewal opens about 35 days before expiration, and a passing test stays valid for 90 days (DMV), so a test early in that window covers the renewal with time left over for any repair. ## Driving habits on the northwest side About 74.5 percent of workers in the ZIP drive alone, and the mean commute is 21.9 minutes (ACS 2020-2024), a little under the Washoe County mean of 22.5. A car that climbs the hill every day is a car whose check engine light you notice quickly, and in Nevada a lit lamp on a 1996 or newer light-duty vehicle is an automatic fail. The DMV still suggests testing, because the failed report starts the repair and retest path; see [check engine light on](https://xpresssmogcenter.com/smog-check/check-engine-light/). If the car in your garage is new, it is exempt for its first three registrations and tests at the fourth. A new hybrid gets five model years and tests in the sixth (DMV). ## What to have with you at Mae Anne Ask about renewing your registration in the same visit. If the oil is due, the location is an Xpress Oil & Lube Center, so both jobs fit one stop. - Your renewal notice if one arrived, and the odometer reading. - The vehicle with any insurance tracker unplugged from the OBD port under the dashboard; technicians are required to fail a vehicle with a device plugged in (DMV). - Reno Northwest hours: Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm, Saturday 8 am to 4 pm, closed Sunday.
