Reno South on Longley Ln is about 9 minutes north by I-580, and Reno Northwest on Mae Anne Ave is about 23 minutes. 4.8 stars from 340 Google reviews of this Xpress Oil & Lube Center The 89521 ZIP code area spreads across the south end of the Truckee Meadows: Damonte Ranch, South Meadows, the streets off Steamboat Parkway and Double Diamond Parkway and the homes along I-580. Much of it is newer subdivision housing, so many of the questions here are about when a newer car first needs a test. The ZIP also holds the DMV's own Reno Emission Lab, which matters if a test ever goes wrong. ## At a glance - About 9 minutes to Reno South (4993 Longley Ln); about 23 to Reno Northwest (6100 Mae Anne Ave). - A new vehicle is exempt for its first three registrations and tests at the fourth (DMV). - The DMV Emission Lab is at 9155 Double Diamond Pkwy, inside this ZIP. - 41,859 people, 2.09 vehicles per household (ACS 2020-2024). ## North on I-580 From Damonte Ranch Parkway or South Meadows Parkway, I-580 north reaches Longley Lane near the Reno-Tahoe airport in about 9 minutes in light traffic by OpenStreetMap routing. Reno Northwest on Mae Anne Avenue is about 23 minutes, staying on I-580 to I-80 west. For almost every trip from this ZIP, Longley Lane is the one. ## When a new car first tests Nevada skips the test for a new vehicle's first three registrations. The fourth registration is the first one that needs a passing result (DMV). A new hybrid gets more time: five model years, with the first test in the sixth. An electric vehicle is exempt from the test altogether. The [new vehicle exemption](https://xpresssmogcenter.com/smog-check/new-vehicle-exemption/) page counts the years with examples. ## The DMV lab down the road The Reno DMV Emission Lab sits at 9155 Double Diamond Pkwy, (775) 684-3580. It is where the waiver process ends: after a failed test and qualifying repairs, you bring the vehicle, both failed certificates and the repair receipts. Waiver inspections run 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday, except state holidays, at no charge. The lab also checks readiness for free, with no appointment, if you arrive before 4:30 pm. That is useful when a newer car keeps coming back not ready after a battery change. ## The ZIP in Census figures ACS 2020-2024 estimates count 41,859 people in 16,848 households in the ZIP code area, 2.09 vehicles per household and 69 percent of homes with two or more.
