Reno South on Longley Ln is about 5 minutes away, the shortest drive of any ZIP on this site, and Reno Northwest on Mae Anne Ave is about 22 minutes. 4.8 stars from 340 Google reviews of this Xpress Oil & Lube Center The 89511 ZIP code area runs from South Virginia Street and I-580 up into the foothills along the Mount Rose Highway, through Galena and the neighborhoods below the mountain. Two things set it apart for a smog check. It is the closest ZIP to the Longley Lane location, and it sits right below the one stretch of Washoe County where the testing line changes: the Lake Tahoe side of Mount Rose. ## At a glance - About 5 minutes to Reno South (4993 Longley Ln); about 22 to Reno Northwest (6100 Mae Anne Ave). - The whole ZIP is inside the Washoe testing area, foothills included. - Incline Village and Crystal Bay, over the summit, are exempt Washoe areas (DMV). - 2.08 vehicles per household; 69.9 percent of homes have two or more (ACS 2020-2024). ## Five minutes up I-580 From South Virginia Street or the lower end of the Mount Rose Highway, I-580 north brings you to Longley Lane near the Reno-Tahoe airport in about 5 minutes in light traffic by OpenStreetMap routing. From the upper foothills it runs longer. Reno Northwest on Mae Anne Avenue is about 22 minutes, north on I-580 and west on I-80, and makes sense only on a day spent on that side of town. ## The line over the mountain The DMV's Washoe testing area covers Reno, Sparks, Washoe Valley, most of the area west of Washoe Valley and all of Washoe County south of the 40th parallel, with named exceptions. Incline Village and Crystal Bay, on the Lake Tahoe side of the Mount Rose summit, are exempt Washoe areas, along with Sutcliffe, Nixon and Wadsworth. The rule follows where a vehicle is based, not where it is driven. A car registered to a South Reno address tests every year even if it spends weekends at the lake. A car based at an Incline Village address does not, even if it commutes down the mountain to work. Households that move between the two should check which address is on the registration. If you are not sure whether an address is inside the line, the DMV points to the Reno Emissions Lab at (775) 684-3580. ## Households in 89511 The Census Bureau's ACS 2020-2024 estimates count 30,956 people in 13,054 households across the ZIP code area, with 2.08 vehicles per household and 69.9 percent of households owning two or more. The median age is 46 and the mean commute is 20.4 minutes. For most homes that means two or more renewals a year, each one a five-minute drive from a test. ## When you go - Reno South: Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm, Saturday 8 am to 3 pm, closed Sunday.
